Long tubes get a thumbs up. I am happy with my TSP ones. I added V-bands to them, but they fit my 4wd no issues.
Save the money on the "chip" and get a custom tune from a tuner, preferably on the dyno
All the cams you can find for gen3 motors will fit the block, but YOU MUST do valve springs, and for crazy cams check piston to valve clearance. The crazier the cam, the more money you spend running it; fuel, stall, springs, tune, etc.
I have a stock head (706) gen3 5.3 that just cracked 302whp NA with very basic mods:
Stock heads, intake, TB
TSP 212/218 112LSA (usually touted as the biggest suggested on a stock stall truck)
LS6 springs
eBay 4" intake
TSP 1 7/8 LTs (I suggest 1 3/4 for you, I built my system to support a 408, rumor has it the bigger the primary, the more off idle torque you lose)
3.5" exhaust
OEM 6.2 muffler

I would just do springs. The LS6 springs can be had under $60 brand new, you can rent a tool or buy the comp tool that pays for itself if you do a second spring swap in another motor.
Everyone has an opinion, and the NSR might be a good option, but I wouldnt leave 30-40hp on the table to simply avoid an hour of work with the tool and a leak down tester.
