What exhaust setups are you guys running?

I mean from the cats back.? I have seen all the usual Borla, Gibson, PV, Flowmaster Thunder, systems. I want something loud but with a good tone, all raspy and no under truck resonance. I talked to a buddy of mine who owns a muffler shop. He told me he is building them 2 ways. On high hp trucks he is going dual 2.5" from the Y pipe into a 2 into 2 flowmaster, 3 chamber and 2.5" tail pipes in various configurations. He says this makes good power and sounds good but kind of quiet. He recommended me to go with a 2.5" dual from the Y pipe into 2, 2 chamber flowmasters, upright and parallel to each other then 2.5" tail pipes out the back with a slash cut on them and tucked up tight to the bumper. I saw one he did on a toyota with a 355" and it looked killer. What are you guys using and what tail pipe configuration? Pics?

on my old 5300,
i ran 2.5" back from the cat into (2) one-chamber flowmasters, with 2.5" piping back into hideaways;
(no tips, just bent the piping down)
that was louder than a ****..
sounded deep; all i had to do was tap the pedal,
and people would turn around.
the one-chambers are hard to find, since most exhaust shops dont carry them.
i got mayco muffler shop on spencer highway to put them on with aftermarket cats as well.
not before them trying to tell me i was crazy!!

does an "X" pipe make the exhaust louder?
will an "X" pipe pass the new emissions testing?
i have just a 2 chamber flowmaster now with the one in, two out setup (chicken **** exhaust)
i am going to change it when i get some extra $$
i want a true dual at least a two chamber with an x-pipe. i've heard it wont pass inspection with a true dual...is this true? if not, i'm getting a true dual then. screw the one muffler!!

As long as the convertors are in the right place and the motor is in the right state of tune, the emissions will not be any greater due to bigger pipes or more mufflers. The only thing big pipes and better mufflers affect is the noise decibles. Now if you start changing the converters or moving them farther back from the motor, you will not get enough heat in them and the emissions will have more COs. I think I am going to go with the dual 2.5" into 2-two chamber flowmaster(not the deltas, the ole schools) and run the pipes out the back, slash cut them about 4-5"s inward of the rear bumper and not waste money on tips. Problem is my trailer hit may be in the way, its aftermarket. Let me know how your exhaust comes out.

If you're doing it for a 5.3 then dual 2.5 might be a tad too large and will take low end torque away. It's all in what you want though and where you want it to occur at in the rpm range.

Duel 3" cut outs on my rig. Quiet when I want but loud as hell when I need the noise and extra 20 RWHP.. Oh yeah, they were cheap.

Check my sig for my set up. I had 2 flows dumped before the axle and it was loud as hell. I got headers and changed to the new setup. You can hardly hear it at idle or cruising, but when you get on it, it screams.

Big J, your truck is freakin awesome. It has everything I want for mine!! Care to reveal any drag strip numbers? What setup are you using for tail pipes now? I am thinking full tail pipes out of the mufflers going to the rear of the truck and exiting just shy of the bumper, kinda tucked up under by the trailer hitch, just straight with a slash cut on the end. No 3.5" megatone tips or anything, lol..

i got true dual 2-1/4" tubing with 2 single in/single out flowmaster 40 series mufflers. at idle and cruising its just a tad louder and deeper than stock but when i push the gas it roars. the SOTP meter didn't feel like i lost any low end torque but i have no numbers to back it up yet (when you work from 2PM - 10P its impossible to get to a track).
i don't think the x-pipe should affect emissions at all. all it does is equal out the back pressure.
