You will see 15-20 HP typical from a good set of springs. It has to do with a combination of better spring harmonics, better stability at higher RPM, and the increased pressure will stabalize the valvetrain. The better spring harmonics get you more power because the engine will have less "bad harmonics" to power through. These are RPM's where the spring stops functioning and just sort of dances on the head. Normally they don't last very long, but can happen at several times in the full RPM range of an engine.

Another issue on the LS-1 is that going to a good dual spring eliminates the "meshing" noise that bee-hive or conical springs cause. This is when one of the smaller coils smashes into one of the larger ones. This creates a "knocking" or "meshing" noise that trips the knock sensor in the engine and pulls timing out of the motor.

A good roller rocker will also give you more power because of smoother movement of the rocker with a better roller fulcrum, and with an increase in ratio. With the increase in ratio, it'd be just like putting a bigger cam in.

Several companies have good dual spring/retainer combos in your price range. When you go to do the cam and/or rockers, better springs open up more options to what you can do.

so what if your not runnin a high lift cam like a .529
would it be worth it to go get double springs then, or should you stick with singles like ls6 springs or comp 918's?

Is this the 212/218 .522/.529 114lsa cam that is talked about so much? Would this be suitable for both the 4.8 and 6.0?

Thanks,

you'll need new springs, other than that you can re-use all stock parts.
