Default What cam to get

I'm thinking about getting a cam into my truck without my parents knowing. Whats a good cam that will give me a noticeable increase without hurting gas mileage or the need of tuning besides the HPP3? From what I've heard the 1999 year models had the worst cam. Is it hard to swap out our cams, seeing how I've never opened up my engine before? Could it be done in one night? I'm asking because I just sold my nitro rc car and I'm waiting for the check to clear ($230) an I might want to get the cam and springs now and install them over the summer when my parents least expect it. Any info will help thanks

With all the other mods, why would your parents care? heh...

Because those are simple bolt ons with no adverse side effects and they feel that they aren't major mods that can't hurt anything.

you'll be hard pressed to find a cam and springs for 230.

a nice setup would be a comps 212/218 114 or tr220 114 with some manley springs. a cam and spring swap can be done in a day if you know what your doing. first time out dont rush and i'd say at least give yourself a whole weekend. and your gas mileage will drop, thats just the nature of adding more power, especially with internal work. you can check out jmx's site (ls1howto.com) and get reference on how to do the install, its off an fbody so some of your ****'ll be different during the tear down but the fundamentals are the same (cam/spring swap)
