I can't tell what came in what, but what I do know is this.
LQ4 is far easier to find than LQ9.

IIRC, LQ9 came in Escalade.
Just a guess, but I'd say to look for either engine in heavy duty usage vehicles, like Hoes, Burbs, Escalades. Some vans or 1 tons may've had em, prolly had to be 2500's. Oh ya, what about VortecMax & SSS? 1500HD?

I know they came in some of the aforementioned, but someone else can detail yrs & specifics. better than me.

I haven't needed 1 yet, but if I did, I could tell u exactly.

99-00 lq4 had iron heads and a longer crank that cant be coupled to a 4l60, only a 4l80
01-04 lq4 came with aluminum heads and can be coupled to a 4l60 or 4l80
05-newer lq4 came with aluminum heads and the stronger rods that were in lq9's and can be coupled to a 4l60 or 4l80
all lq4's had 9.4:1 comp ratio
lq9's had the stronger rods aluminum heads, but with flat top pistons for a bump in compression ratio to 10:1

if i was going n/a i would pick up an lq9, for boosted i would go lq4, and if i was looking for an lq4 it would be an 05 or newer

Trucks with engine vin code "N" denotes the LQ9, which were available in 02-06 Escalades, 03-07 Silverado SSs, and I believe later nbs model silverados and sierras with the VortexMax option.
