Went and drove me a Duramax tonight...

So I went and checked out one to see all the rage, well all I can say in stock form I am a bit disappointed.
Very different power delivery than a gas motor. It felt very, very sluggish off boost too. Needed almost 70% throttle to move off boost. Totally different than what I was expecting for sure. Idles around 700rpm and redlines at like 3300rpm, very odd but I had to remember it makes 500+tq at 1800rpm. Don't get me wrong it pulled like crazy but had a far different feel than what I was expecting.
I need to ride/drive one that has an exhaust and programmer to see what I think.

Yeah I was expecting some "face distorting thrust" with 500+ tq, but it was there and gone and couldn't tell. It is a trip for sure. I'd assume with some bolt ons I would get that feeling.
I really need to drive one for a day and check it out like that. I will most likely do that next week for that 24 hr test drive.
If I can stick some AFR-335 BBC heads on an 8.1 if the intake lines up I think I may just go that route. Nothing wrong with 496 cubes + CNC ported heads + intercooled Whipple
Hell I dunno anymore with this crap. lol

A new dmax is sluggish of the line, they dont break in till 10,000 miles.Power delivery is different than a gasser.I have a 2002 8.1 and 2003 Dmax, the dmax will kill the gasser in a drag race. The 8.1 has the advantage from 0-30 from 30-110 the dmax walks away.Modern diesels are not slow, several mags have tested them and the dmax is quicker in every test.My dmax would run 14s if I wasnt spinning the tires half way down the track. It gets 18.5mpg at 75mph will my gasser gets 10-11,it does'nt swill oil either.

Think I should go drive a used one then?
Is it normal to usually rev higher around 2200-3000 for normal driving...sorta like a gas motor? It seemed high as the powerband is from 700-3200.
