Default Went to the dragstrip.

Just looking for some answers after going to the dragstrip. The best that I could run was 15.3 @ 85 MPH. The truck did have some traction issues, but the main issue it had was when it went into 3rd gear. The truck would pull hard all the way through 2nd gear, but when it hit 3rd gear it would drop rpms to around 3,000 rpm's and felt like a boat anchor had been tossed out the back.

My questions is this. Has anyone had this same problem, or have I overlooked something. With the mod's that I have made it should have been in the 14's but some of the tire spin hurt on ET. Seems like it should pull as hard in 3rd as it does in other gears, but it feels like it just quits pulling.

If anyone has some ideas, please share them here, my mod's are listed below. Thanks.

Hmm Idk, probably time for a power adder Also, your probably a lil heavier which will make you a lil slower than the guys with the same mods and a rcsb truck, ya kno?

what are the specs on your cam?

edit: also, 3.42 gears are stock for the most part.. get some 3.73s or 4.10s , and if you dont have a posi rear end.. i suggest a eaton or auburn locker.

The cam that I have is Comp #54-412-11, Specs are 212/218 522/529 114LSA. Oh I understand about it being a heavy truck, but it pulled real hard through 1st and 2nd. Got looking at the logged run and it looked liked it was pulling 35 to 37 degrees of advance, once it went into third gear. While it was pulling 25 degrees advance through 1st and 2nd gear, so I may need to go in with HP Tuners and change the timing for third gear, maybe it was just to much. Sometimes more is not always better. The rear end is the stock G80 limited slip, know that this may not live, an Eaton is on my to do list. If you need more info just let me know.

Yea that can be a big traction issue. 3k is not really sporty when your trying to hook. Unless you have a set of slick's. Oh and a rear that can take it. Watch out for that G80. If your wanting to do after market gears then what the hell, Just break it. If not then I would do a eaton asap.

No I do not stall at the line, it would really spin the tires then, just plant foot and go. Just hear tires spin for a short time off the line, and when it hits 2nd gear, the tires break loose again for a short chirp. Seems like that when it hits 3rd gear, converter goes into lock up as well at the same time. Is there a way to delay lock up at full throttle? Maybe that would help. Thanks.

wannagofast - Yeah the stock rear end is not long for wear, will have to replace it this summer with an Eaton. Where is a good place to find the Eaton at the best price?

Where are you located? Just trying to figure out if altitude is a factor for you. I'm not sure about the "MAFless tunning", but I would have expected mid 14's from that combo. What size wheels and tires are you running?

wow mafless speed density. cool. 3.42 gears with an ec is where i think itis. that truck is one to one then and those gears are not helping. i would take a maf tune and throw it back in for a couple a runs. what is the af ratio?? i didnt get into the 14's till i did some gears.

i ran high 14's with only my diablo, k&n intake kit, ngk plugs, msd wires. i did a gear swap a few months ago and dropped .2 tenths in the quarter by adding some 3.90's. definately get a new gear and it will help out big time
