The engine block is the largest solid part of the engine, where the pistons, camshaft, crankshaft, and pushrods are housed.

The bore is the diameter of each cylinder, and defines how large of a cylinder head you can use.

The stroke is the path the piston travels and means the distance that the cylinder head travels between its lowest and highest point.

Heads mount on top of the cylinders and house the rockers and valves. The rockers are pushed on by the pushrods which stick out of the block, which are in contact with the camshaft. As the camshaft turns, the oval contact points turn, which makes the pushrods move, which makes the rockers move, which push down on the valve springs, which determine the movement of the valves, which control when air and fuel are let into the combustion chamber, and when exhaust gasses are let out.

Pistons are what compress the air/fuel mixture placed into the combustion chamber, and are pushed downward once the mixture ignites. This motion turns the crankshaft, which is the output of the engine. The amount of compression the pistons make is what gives you your compression ratio.

The 4.8L and 5.3L truck engines are inherently the same accept for the stroke length, which is changed by the crankshaft. Changing out the crankshaft for one with a longer stroke is what a "stroker motor" is.

the 5.7L (350ci) truck engines had more torque but less horsepower than the 5.3, but in the last couple years the 5.3 has equalled if not surpassed the old 5.7's torque output.

There are many modern 5.7L GM engines. The 5.7L LS1 (346ci) has an aluminum block instead of the iron block used in the old truck 5.7L, the 5.7L LT1 engine, and most older motors. This makes the engine lighter, but makes the exhaust tone sound less like a "musclecar" sound.

The LS1 was used in Corvettes starting in the year 1997 and Camaros/Firebirds starting in the years 1998. In the year 2001, the Z06 corvettes started using LS6 engines.

The LS6 has the same displacement as the LS1 engine (btw displacement is the volume of air and fuel that an engine is capable of moving at one time) but the LS6 has some minor changes in design that allow it to handle more power consistantly than the LS1 was meant to handle stock. Case in point: in 2002, the LS1 found in camaros made ~355hp, while the LS6 in Z06 corvettes generated ~400hp. Each year until 2005 saw a slight increase in engine power. Some 2001 and 2002 Camaros/firebirds were made with LS6 blocks.

The LT1 was a true 350 iron block motor that was used in many models of GM produced cars. 1993-1997 Camaros/firebirds, C4 corvettes, Buick Roadmasters, 1994-1997 Monte Carlos and Impala SS's, and i'm sure many other vehicles. It generally doesn't respond as well to boltons as the LSX series motors, but sounds great. The ones in camaros/firebirds made about 260hp.

The TPI 350 5.7L engines were used in trucks during the mid/late 80s until 1992 in Camaros/firebirds as an optioned motor with only an auto as a transmission, because the T-5 used in the 305's couldn't handle the torque. It's basically an iron block run of the mill 350 with an unsynchronized fuel injection intake on it. It made around 270hp and 330lb. ft. Ballpark estimate.

The 6.0L found in Silverado SS's has about 345hp and 375ft. lbs. To be honest i don't know that much about it.

I didn't bother looking anything up so if i'm wrong about something i appologise, feel free to correct me. This is just what was on the top of my head.

I found alot of usefull info here. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...speaker+wiring There is alot of f-body stuff also but there is plenty of ls1 and truck engine info as well.
