Default wasn't expecting pacesetters to look like that

my friend brought over his 04 to show me his new pacesetter headers. i was expecting nice shiny headers like i see in advertisements. when he opened the hood i was a little thrown off. they were black around the flanges and down the tubes 4 or 5 inches then the black coating was burnt off and the tubes were various colors and what not, i figured from the heat. one of the tubes had spider web or fish scale looking crap on it that i wondered what it was all about. i didn't question how they looked to him but i don't understand. are they black because they weren't ceramic coated? they felt and sounded unbelievable but didn't look very nice. just wondering thanks.

Yea, those were the uncoated, black painted once. The really cheap once. When I order my Pacesetters coated, I was sent the uncoated ones by mistake instead of the coated. I was like what the hell! Sent um back and got the nice shinny ones.

yeah i was a little suspect on that......i thought ceramic coating was important for a couple of reasons? like proper temps or 02 readings? maybe someone can clarify a little for me. is the coating what makes them nice looking?

Yea the coating has a nice shinny finish. They look good, but the main job of ceramic coating, is to hold the heat in the header tubing. If the hot exhaust gas stays inside the header tubing, it will flow faster. In other word more hp. Also, it keeps underhood temperatures down a little bit and they cool fast.

how are they performing for ya?

It'd be nice if we had an 1 7/8" option
