WANT POWER and im a newbie
#1
Hey was up guys, I'm from austin texas and i was just lookin on over from fullsize chevy.com and i want some advice on big power. i have a 2000 chevy silverado swb fleestside. it has a 4.8 liter and the only mods i have on it are the k&n fipk II and a flowmaster two chamber dual exit exhaust. i got my truck dynod and i got a messy 232 hp and 232 tq...but i guess you gotta start somewhere. specifically a want a sweet launch, better mid torque, and overall quickness. i would greatly appreciate the advice...oh and the truck came with the ls package so i'm not sure it it has posi can you guys tell? and the 4l60e has been rebuilt and the moter has 148,000 miles but runs great.
THANKS

check code for posi would be g80. re4ally to make it overall quicker drop an engine in their. you can pick up a 6 liter for 1250-2000 depending on if it's a lq4 or lq9. if you wanted to stay with that engine I wouldn't do anything to it with that high of miles becasue if you blow it up all the money you spent on let's say a cam, head work, what not is all a waste. I would do a 6 liter, 2600-3200 stall from yank or vigilante. cam, and build up the 60 or swap it out for the 4l80e. jsut depends on how much $$ you have to play with and what your really want out of it.

thanks i really want the 6.0 but i cant find one, is there gonna be much to change with the other nontransplanted components? gosh i would love a 6.0 HO...i think i'll just let the 4.8 dwindle down, but it seems to be so strong still. thank GM?

the 6.0 is a drop in motor, you can run the stock tune even. all the wiring and tranny allbolt right up. I have the 6.0 in my extended cab and wish I new how to put one in my regular cab becasue then it would haul ***. but my wife drives the regular cab so she really doesn't ned more power(atelast not yet). galso get a custom tune from one of the many vendors.

well depending on what cam you went with and what happened to your motor when it finally went you could always use the cam in the 6.0 when your 4.8 craps out or sell it to help pay for the cam you want to put in the 6.0 but hell cam it and like he said put a high stall in there and if bucks is a factor you can get a TCI converter Vs. a yank or PI wont be as nice but it will be cheaper and get the fun factor up trust me i have one

ok if you spent the money on a gear swap go to 4.10's. these engines rev so high that they really like them and will only hurt your gas mileasge a little but. a 4l65e is an upgraded internally 4l60e. I have the 4l65e in my VHO. the difference between the LQ4 and LQ9 is compression. the pistons are what makes the differnce. the LQ9 has a 10 to 1 compression so you have to run atleast 91 octane. the LQ4 has I beleive 9.4 to 1 compression. SO the LQ$ is very boost freindly but the LQ9 isn't after abut 8 psi. If you wanted to stay NA go LQ( witrh a nice sized cam, a built 4l65e, 4.10 gears, 3000 stall and a nice tune and your little truck would hall some ***.
