My friend has a 01 lightning he just got and I'm dying to kill it, I have $800 and I want to invest in either a direct port or wet kit Nitrous system which would be better and about how much N20 will I need to beat it?

 

I would say you need 175hp gain on a 5.3 to beat a lightning. My buddy has a stock 02 and it went 13.40@103 in the heat last friday so...Assuming your truck runs atleast high 14s on motor now, you will need to knock off 1.5 seconds or so..thats ATLEAST 150hp needed and some tires to put it down. BTW, ask Hyde about his 170hp shot and what happened. Won't last long.

 

Is the L stock? If not (if he has pulley/chip/filter etc), you will blow up your truck before you get that fast. If it is stock, I would think it would take at least 150 shot to run low 13's - depending on any other mods you may have.

Most lightnings can get into the 12's with a few hundred dollars (the right chip and pulley = mid 12's), and trying to run 12s with a stock 4l60e trans seems improbable from what I have read.

 

150-175 shot will get you there.....for how long, thats anyones guess!

 

if you want to beat a stock lighting, it will take a good driver/bad driver combo in your favor, all the boltons, tires, and probably either nitrous (easier) or cam + great luck.

if the lightning is even mildly moded (chip, pulley, filter) you need ANOTHER lightning to beat the guy.

Hyde blew his motor because he sprayed out of the hole with it. I have Hydes old nitrous kit and have sprayed many a bottle through it. I have sprayed his shot and a bit larger and have had no problems what so ever

 

right now my 99 sierra sle rc/sb has K&N FIPK, Edelbrock TES headers, custom ram air set-up, HPP3 fully programmed for 93oct., true duel flowmaster custom exhaust set-up, Magnaflow x-pipe, Helix Power Tower TBS. I was told that I could run high to mid 14's now. planning to take it to the track as soon as I get the time. My brand new 18x9 MB Motoring Flash rims and tires are on their way, hopefully I will get more traction, then a cam will find its way into my motor !!

 

my buddy mark (raging motorsports) has run 13.9s on reg radials (20s actually) with no convertor, just cam and boltons. oh and no headers either. so it is possible. he has a 5.3L swd std cab truck.

 

kick him in the nutts, then you'll be him cuz he wont be able to push the pedal down all the way.
