Default Vinci Cams

I was wondering if any here were running the Vinci "44" cam on their 5.3L and if so what kind of gains the experianced. How does the idle sound and do you feel the gains were worth the $$. Thank alot for your help. I plan on picking one of these up at the beginning of Feb if I don't get any bad feedback on it. If anyone knows of any cams that perform better for the 5.3L please let me know. I checked out the cam sheet in the truck section but it really doesn't say what kind of gains were made. I need to keep it somewhat streetable because I plow with it in the winter but I have no problem buying a TC, valvetrain enhancements and tune.

I think quiettahoe has the 044. Hopefully he'll see this.

As for others with Vinci cams, marc_w has the 047 and gamedawgx53 has the 062. Both of them seem to really like their cams.

I have a 062 too, but it's not installed yet.

Yeah, I think Yelo has the 044 also - I know he was doing his with LS1 heads - I'm not sure what his status is with things...

My 047 is supposed to be real similar to the 044, except mine will have a little loss of lowend, with a bigger midrange, and more "cammyness" to it (on/off feeling when you're in/out of the lower RPM power range). With that said, here are my feelings on the 047...

I LOVE my 047 in my 6.0. A little cackle at idle, but nothing to get rowdy about. It usually takes a trained ear to hear it. I would expect the 044 to idle similar to this in a 5.3. I can get an updated soundclip tonight if you want... but here is my old one through factory manifolds, cats, and the B&B. http://yo_marc.tripod.com/video/SS047idle.mpg

Power and torque are very VERY linear. Boatloads of power at part throttle. After doing a quick and dirty speed-density tune on the truck this weekend, I'm starting to find that I almost have TOO MUCH part throttle power. Even with the stock converter, power comes on quick in the 1,800 rpm range, which makes for a fun daily-driving cam.

I like to scan "delivered torque" in HPTuners here. I use it as a poor-man's dyno when I change things with the tune or engine. Here are some numbers from me goofing around earlier this week:

The numbers are in ft/lbs - but I can't tell you how accurate or inaccurate they are with real world numbers at the wheels - just check out the flat torque availabe: 390 at 2,100rpm - 400 at 2,500 - 425 at 3,600 - 400 at 5,000 - 345 at 6,000. ....and that's with KR taking timing out too.

The power off idle pushes my stock converter to a 2,100rpm flash... so 2,100 is about the lowest RPM I can get a good 'delivered torque' number out of. I cannot for the life of me get a brake stall out of it - the tach gets up to 2,000-2,100 with half throttle and the truck just pushes right along.

Yeah.......marc_w is right; I've got the 044, but it's going in a 6.0 with higher-than-stock-compression LS1 heads so I'm not sure you'll have a good comparison with a stock-headed 5.3

Hopefully I'll have this combo together soon.....

I'm still collecting parts and then I'm going to wait until I get my truck re-inspected in April.

my 062 picked up .4 in the 1/8 and .1 to .2 60ft on the same 93 tune
and stock converter

has plenty of lope which can be tuned out if you wanted
valvetrain noise isnt bad at all
I love my cam I would buy it again even if I pulled alot
IMO perfect for a heavy truck
