Did you hear how the engine speed went up when you took the cap off? Its a PCV problem.

Yup, I'm working on diagnosing it right now. Taking off the oil cap or popping the PCV valve out of the block while the engine is running relieves a strong vacuum inside the block. I understand that the PCV is supposed to vent excess pressure from the block back into the intake, but if it's pulling a vacuum at this location, I'm not convinced that the PCV valve itself is bad. Any idea why such a strong vacuum is being generated?
