Default Update On AirForce One Intake Kit

Got the kit yesterday and decided to put it on today...

Install was pretty easy and straightforward, took about 45 minutes with me taking my sweet time.

Initial impressions on the kit aren't all that favorable. The WOT noise is pretty annoying and deep, although that's easily livable if the power was there to back it up....unfortunately it doesn't feel like it is.

The truck honestly feels SLOWER with this CAI on than with the stock air box and intake tubing. Seems like the upper rpms take longer to wind out and low-end torque seems to have dropped off some after I just picked up a nice amount with the Hypertech.

I am going to switch back to the stock box tomorrow and re-test the ole butt-o-meter but I am pretty sure the truck feels a tad sluggish with the AirForce One kit. I will admit though the kit seems to be made well, everything fits pretty good and the finish on the polished stuff is nice.

Looks like this one is goin back for a credit....

Maybe the metal pipe soaks in a lot of engine heat. You might want to check out the DJ Motorsports kit. It has a heat resistant tube, K&N Filter and a heat shield. I hate the heat shield, though, it is some flexible crap and you kind of fold it into shape and bolt it down. It doesnt seal to the bottom of the hood either, but I made a seal for mine. It was just $190 shipped from Summit.

I don't think it's heat-soaking. The temps around here last night were in the low 40's and I was doing a good amount of highway cruising. Even starting it cold and testing after 5 or 10 minutes, throttle repsonse just feels non-existant down low and the truck seems to struggle to rev through the upper-rpm range.

I can't possibly see how adding this could weaken performance but it sure seems to have done just that. I also am able to hear alot more engine noises, and I don't mean the sound at WOT. Ticks and clatters are more apparent, I wonder if the steel air tube helps transmit sound. I noticed when I would operate the throttle by hand I could hear the snap back of blade very audibly at the other end in the air filter

Maybe reset the pcm? I think you might be running rich or something now.

I left my Tahoe stock and it runs just great! Sounds like you slowed down and I might be able to beat you!

Lane are you gonna be at the picnic tomorrow?

John, up until the air intake the truck was running pretty damn good, a lot better than the night we raced

Well, I know that you're not happy with your intake, but I would love to know where you got it and how much it was. I have a show truck and really want something shiny under the hood. I'll just have to make up the lost HP with N2O or something!

Thanks,
Scream
