Unplug the cycling switch (the one on the accumulator) and jump the 2 terminals with a paper clip or wire. If the clutch stays engaged then, see if it's cooling good. I (gm technician)have seen a lot of bad switches, you can tap them and they will start working. If it still doesn't cool well with it jumped, you may be low in freon. Also make sure the belt on the compressor isn't slipping, the tensioners on these trucks are weak anyway and fail rather often.

When charge is low, and rpm's are also low, comp. can't move enough refrigerant to make the required pressure needed to keep the low pressure safety switch from cutting out. Charge is low. look for a leak before charging. comp. oil moves about the system with the refrigerant, and anywhere there is a leak you will have a slight oily stain.

I had the same exact problem. It was a leak on the high pressure side. You know what the dealership blamed it on??!! My engine. Said the engine was torque-n' to much and causing the line to crack. This has happened 2 times in the last 2 weeks! Sucks, cause it's been over 100 degrees everyday!!
