If i drop the LS6 cam in my 4.8 will i need to do any tuning to get it running right, or should it run pretty smooth?

It will run smooth but you will need to increase your shift points to get the full benefit. Shift around 6200 rpms as long as you install the proper valve springs. It will sing above the 3000 range, low end you will lose some.

Talk to SmokUr5.0. I think he has a cam somewhat close to that. I want to do the same cam. He told me he didnt do anything with edit besides kick up the top speed limit, rev limiter, and shift points. It idles good.

What rpm does this cam peak at? It's not going to be to high in the 4.8 is it? I'm really just worried about losing all my low end.

I think you do lose a bit down low. But the new power it makes up high is nice!!

Heres a link to SmokUr5.0's thread on the cam. Cam Thread

Here is his dyno graph. DynoJet Graph

I got 3.42's right now....would 4.10's make up for the low end loss?

A ball park range of $1000 maybe. I'd figure $250 for cam+springs, $500 for labor, $250 for a tune. I'd also install hardened pushrods while it is all apart. It is a good S/C cam because of its large split between exhaust and intake.

BUT before that, I'd ditch your HPP3, get a better tune. Get a set of long tubes and a high flow intake. A stall converter and shift kit too. Then I'd look at the cam swap.

Get everything inorder to make better usage of the cam.

at 6200 rpm the ls6 cam isnt even close to maxed out in a 4.8 .....id look around at a lunati or something different, the zo6 cam was made to work in a 5.7 not a 4.8 belive me i just finished my 5.3 last week you will lose a ton of power off the line unless you go with a big stall....look at the lun 550003 thats the cam i have it sounds good... i have a 2800 stall and i still lost a bit out of the hole......also if the max hp in a 5.7 is 6600 for the ls6 in a 4.6 its near 7800 or higher....just my 2 cents .....
