Truck Misfiring
#1
I hae a 98 c/k 1500 pickup and has been misfiring for a while. I went to the dealer and they told me that the cause of the misfire was because a problem with the injectors. In the next week or so were going to put a new distributor in the truck. Does anyone have any idea if putting a new distributor is the solution or go with the injector solution.

This site is for the 99' up LS1 based engines.
But I used to own a 98 so maybe I can help. Yes the injectors on these engines (5.0, 5.7) suck big time. Not only does it have injectors it has poppet valves down stream which have a tendancy to get stuck either open or closed. There was a tech bulletin on this that spelled out a procedure for the dealerships to flush them out with high pressure solvent.
I would recommend that before dropping dime on a new distributer. But a new cap and rotor will sometimes fix a misfire as well, and its cheap and easy to do. If you replace the distributor on these engines you need to adjust the camshaft sensor readings, and you need a techII or similar scan tool to do it. If you don't have that, you could make it worse. Good luck.

Dumb question, but you have checked all the little things yourself (not relied on the dealer to tell you they did it) like plugs, wires, and like L82gofast said, cap and rotor. Check the coil and see if it has any water trapped under the boot. That was the cause of a problem on one of my older trucks. How much trust do you have in that dealer?
