Tom, I've been tossing around the idea of getting something similar. Why don't you let me use it for the next few months and see if I like it. That way you could save some money for a while on all those mods. LOL!!!!

I was looking the truck over tonight and noticed that it has a two piece steel driveshaft. My HD has a 1 piece aluminum. Hum... I wonder what I can do to make that look good? A big polished shaft looks pretty impressive (hum... that didn't sound right )

This is what the driveshaft on the HD looked like when I was working on it -

I'll need some more drive time before giving a good comparison between the Duramax and 8.1. I brought the truck home and put it in the garage with about 20 miles on the odometer. I'll start driving it more after the first few stages of this project is done. I want to keep the nose very clean for when the protective film goes on. The 8.1 is a great motor and responds very well to mods. A few benefits of the Duramax are -

1 - Better fuel economy. Alot of people are seeing 15-19 MPG. I couldn't even dream of getting that with my 8.1s.

2- Easier to mod. A $700. computer program can be good for about 100hp. You'll need close to $5000. in upgrades to do that to the 8.1. Granted there is the added cost of the motor so it might all average out. You can then add another 50-100+ hp without spending alot of money. Well, until you need to upgrade the Allison.

The places that is doing my tint and audio/video will be installing the film. They have a machine that will give it a perfect cut to fit the hood. I saw a friend's red Sierra that has this. It looks very good. I could just barely see the line when I got close to the truck.

I'll probably bring it down the 1/4 a few times to see what it will run. I wouldn't mind making it just a little faster than the Suburban. That ran 13.9.

I will have to look at my dads D-max again. It's not a crew cab just extended cab. I am almost positive it has an aluminum driveshaft. A HUGE aluminum driveshaft. I will take a magnet with me.

I believe the injectors are on the outside on the LLY engine to make changing them much easier now. On the LB7 they were HARD to change I guess.
