Default Trimming STS wastegate spring?

So how is this done? How do you know how much to trim? I'm getting a boost gauge soon so I don't trim too much , but where do I start? I'm a newb on this so be gentle. After I get this thing boosting correctly then I can see if I need to go bigger injectors or not. Thanks all.

If its over boosting then sts can send you a different spring which is probably the best thing to do. I cut mine down a little at a time using a cut off tool.
It took about 4 trys to get it right, I just cut a little at a time so I wouldn't over do it.

Yeah, I would be leery of trimming that spring. They are cheap and very easy to change anyway. Plus you can go back or install a boost controller.
One other cheaper way is to buy a pressure regulator and install it inline on the wastegate line. Making the orifice smaller will increase the boost levels. This is how the boost controller works anyway and lets you use the standard wastegate spring.

just get a manual boost controller... they are pretty cheap and there's nothing to worry about. I have also seen some guys make their own controllers.

If you do go the pressure regulator route, make sure its a true diaphram regulator (which is really what a manual controller is) and not just a ball and spring type. There's a big difference. The ball and spring is more of an on/off type of regulator and will fluctuate.
Here is a nice manual controller cheap on ebay, I bought this one but have not installed it yet.

Thx for the suggestion ronn25, I just found a cheap manual controller on eBay. Check the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...951992457&rd=1 if interested. Cost $14 including shipping, hard to beat.
Course, now I see nice electronic models, BOV, etc.....wife is gonna have a cow.

Man, I really have to say thanks for the feedback here. I have not had too much spare time to get this straight but I am getting a boost gauge shipped to me should be out next week early. You guys have helped greatly. Thanks!
As soon as I know what its boosting at I'll go from there, bigger injectors will be next for me , I like having the peace of mind knowing there is enough fuel flowing. I've got allot of other mods I want to do to this system and things that just need to be done a little better for safety and easy of maintinence.
Don't get me wrong about the kit quality, I just have to drive this thing every day.

So how muck at a time do you trim to change the boost level? .100", .05", .025"????? i can do this no problem , just need some parameters in which to operate. Anyone do this themselves?
Thanks guys.

Why do this when STS will trade springs with you?
