Getting back to the original discussion, I have a question in regards to what would be considered a free flowing exhaust. Local race engine builders that I've spoken with have basically said that unless you're running open headers, you *generally* want a little more exhaust duration. (I'm sure that other variables can change this generalization...if this thread has taught me anything it's that cam selection isn't cut and dry, there's alot to consider)

Would it be safe to say that anything with cats involved would respond better to a split duration with less overlap...even high flow cats (like the StainlessWorks set-up comes with)? Or are there other ways around that with a single pattern cam?

in my opinion any backpressure, such as cats or a chambered muffler VS straight pipes and straight through muffler, would warrant a split pattern cam.

Open exhaust is definetly going to be an improvement over full exhaust in the amount of air your exhaust system is pushing out. I'd personally rather have to little exhaust in my cam (which will sacrifice top end power) than to much which butchers low-midrange power. This is where you want to be careful in how much exhaust duration you use. You can improve the amount of exhaust flow much easier than the amount of intake your motor brings in.

It's safe to say more exhaust duration is needed with a less efficient exhaust.

you should be at 12.7-12.8 n/a at WOT you're a lil rich, i'd say there's power on the table.

so who makes a split pattern cam that is around the 220 range? futral is all too big, the only thunder racing split is 224/227 which i think is also too big, i cant find any comp ones in the same range and crane is the same story.

thanks
