Even the stock Camaro driveshaft has occasionally been known to exit the vehicle at around the 150 mph range. If you are going to drive at sustained high speeds you need to replace that stock driveshaft and it wouldn’t hurt to install a driveshaft loop. The Corvette has a built-in full length safety loop. The Camaro and Corvette are certainly built more for speed than a pickup and are therefore much safer at speed.

I have my shutoff at 130 and its not sumthing I love to do but I have fractured a few basic speed laws in my day. I hit the shutoff just to do it, thats on 305/40/22s toyo proxis, and a 2/2 drop on a 06z71, it was still a lil hairy even tho it got there in a decent amount of time!!!

Depending on the road condition and the wind mine is pretty comfortable at 110 115 area. Many of times i thought i was doing 80 until i looked down and seen the needle creeping up on 120.
At that speed i start worrying about road debris and driveshaft failure so i start shutting it down.
The only time it's really fun is when you have a dork in a v6 mustang comen up on you at 90 and you lay it down and he gets smaller and smaller. (did it the other day). But that was on a clear smooth section of roadway. I really wouldn't condone hitting triple digit speeds in a 5000lb truck every day. There is so much more that can go wrong than you think.
That being said, Should one find themselves at those types of speed for any certain situation, you'd want to lower it, get some z rated tires, firm suspension and a smooth roadway (preferably Talladega).

Driveshaft loops would be a good idea even after you get a quaulity unit in there. I've had mine in the 130 range a few times, but I have a driveshaft vibration that scares the hell out of me....

With 4.10 gears, the rear speed sensor starts reading erratically at 129mph. I tested it out on a private road. I don't guess there's much we can do about that.

So now every now and again i might hit 120..
Now with the 6L i can go from 70 to 120 in OD with the converter not unlocking... it pulls supprisingly Great too!!!! and never gettin over 3rpm of converer slip so its holding just fine...

Keep in mind I have 3.42 gears, so my shaft isn't spinning that fast at 129 as compared to like someone with 4.10 or 4.56 gears.

I have 0 driveline vibration. If I had felt any I wouldn't have pushed it to 129. Only thing that feels weird is the truck "lifting" when the air gets under it and the tires swelling up. It does 115 pretty comfortably, just anything past that it starts to feel funny and after 120 or so it starts to lift. I like the driveshaft loop idea, that's cheap and easy and might save my *** someday...

I want some factory 20" wheels from a new suburban, some Z rated tires, 2-4 or 3-5 drop, good stiff shocks, rear anti-sway bar, ram-air, big brakes, and eventually twin turbos... custom driveshaft w/loops, Anyone wanna donate? J/K..

BTW: Lightnings are 2 fast.... 158mph sheesh.... that's scary in a pickup, I can't believe it felt sound at 158. V-6 Mustangs are soooo slow...

Engine Speed 4500 RPM
Trans ratio in 4th on a 60e is I believe .70
That means your driveshaft is spinning 6,429 rpms

Engine Speed 5000RPM
Trans ratio in 3rd on a 60e is 1:1
That means your driveshaft is spinning 5000rpm.

It's the harmonics and the ability of your driveshaft to handle these harmonics (critical speed) that will determine your ability to not die doing 135mph in a truck with a one piece driveshaft. If you lose a driveshaft at 135mph on a highway, you will more than likely die. (not that i am beating on speeders, just telling ya my opinion)

A suspension system like mention above and tires that are properly load rated for your truck along with the correct speed ratings will help smooth that ride out.

I have a 5 speed manual BTW, but I think those numbers are okay for 4th and 5th gear in my trans. If I lose the shaft with hoops I will be fine, just have to be ready for the truck to slow quickly... Since 4th is 1:1 in my trans, I will go back and look at my HPTuners scanner logs at 129 and see what engine RPM I am sitting at, will post screenshot.

Here's one where I let off at 127, 5207 rpm in 4th. pulling hard at that rpm BTW... quickly speeds up...
