top speed limiter
#1
I have a 4.8 L 5 speed 1500 Silverado. A tech at Hypertech told me that I can not up the top speed limiter on a 5 speed only on a automatic. If this is true is there any way to up the top speed limiter. I got to get this thing to go faster than the stock settings. Thanks for any help.

never tried this and cant guarantee it will work,but..........
try disconnecting the speed sender from the gearbox. This will leave you (and I think the truck) unaware of your speed.
If it does work, you can put a switch in the wire and switch off the speedo when you want to go fast.
easy to try out.

While you should know what speed you're travelling at, your PCM must know. The tranmission uses the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) signal for many functions within it operation(s). The transmission uses calculated speed for shift points, TCC (torque converter clutch) application, and as well as for variying line pressure. The VSS is also in loop with the OBDII monitoring system and will likely throw a hard and soft code and put the tranny into "limp mode." Some of the earlier OBDII vehicles and early PCMs have no problem with this mod and seemed to work well using the switch.

...ooophs... missed the manual trans part. It will however still throw a soft code if the sensor is unplugged. As far as the Hypertech goes, for some reason the function is not available in the selection menu. As was said earlier the T-56 or Tremec equiped F & Y- bodies have this function available but Hypertec did not select to change values for this table. You can do what you want with TECII & LS1 edit. You may want to call SuperChips and find out about there MicroTuner and see if it has this feature.

The HPP3 works for all 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0L engines. There is no different part # for 5 speeds, so it should ask you if you want to raise the speed limiter.
