Default Too much cam???

Would this cam be too much for my truck as it is, with a custom dyno tune? I am spraying a 150 shot. Just wondering, new to the whole Gen 3 cam thing.

Thanks

Whoops!
Thunder Racing Custom Split Pattern Camshaft for Nitrous/Supercharger
-224/227 .563/.569 114 LSA
-2200-6800 RPM Power Band.
-Excellent mid-range & high RPM power.
-Automatic cars require computer tuning and it is recommend for optimum results on manual transmission cars.
-Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

Too much cam in my book anyway, you need a little less cam or a high stall converter (about 3200 oe so) and deeper drive gear to really wake that combo up. When you factor in the extra RPM range with current gearing you will not get much use out of 3 gear on a 1/4 mile run. That cam with a high stall and NOX and a 4.56 or so would be wicked though.

I think it would work fine...

Once you get all the basic mods done and tuned you should be in the 320rwhp range at least on a 5.3L. If you run smaller tires all the better but you WILL require at least a 3000stall. Just keep in mind that the bottle is going to make you climb in RPM MUCH faster than N/A so if you go too high in gear on a small tire you may end up running out of RPM.

In my case I run stock 31" tall Firestones and set the rev limiter at 6700rpm and I would finish the 1/4mile at the top of 2nd gear and 97mph. Droping into 3rd anytime before the end of the 1/4 would hurt my times. *shrug*

Here is a dyno sheet of my 226/.535/112 cam before any tuning. I picked up 2-2.5mph after tuning. This was without an UD Pulley also.

No, look at your power curve and torque curve. Dropping to third gear (because of deeper gear will not slow you down, it will speed you up. With that power curve you need a 4.56 to 4.88 and remember you will send more accleration torque to the tires and track in EVERY gear with deeper gears. Many year ago a friend of mine built up a old clean 66 Dodge charger with 11.5 to ones in a 383 bored 40 over with 440 heads and a VERY nasty cam and a 850 holley on a Turantula (spelling) intake. With stock 3.55 gears it would not get over the mid 14's in a quarter mile even with street slicks and finish at a about 100 in third gear on a 4 speed manual. We slapped in 4.56's and that big old heavy car came ALIVE and had wild launchs and would do about 13 flat at a bit over 110 in 4th gear in a quarter mile after the gear change.

With a gear change you are correct but dropping into 3rd gear with my stock gears DID slow me down even though I was losing TQ. It is just a simple gear ratio effect.

If I were to stay N/A or N/A + Nitrous I would have went 4.56gears and stuck with my 31" tall tires. Wicked combo indeed.

So I'm not disagreeing with you unless you mean to say that on my setup at that point in time that going into 3rd gear would wouldn't hurt me. I tried it and it did.
