Default Tonneau cover & MPG gains

I have read several articles regarding MPG gains and tonneau covers. I would like some input from those of you who kept a before and after MPG log and your results. the last 2 tanks i have logged city/hwy agerage16.2 MPG w/o a tonneau. i don’t know my gear ratio and my 5.3 ecsb z71 is stock except for a k&n

Siggy

I gained about 1 mpg on average, but that was also during the break in on my truck, so it is hard to say. Most of it was probably due to the motor "loosening up" some.

I have never seen a difference with my tailgate up or down, or with tonneau or before. I keep constant track of my gas mileage.

The biggest change I have ever noticed is with the right foot.

1mpg better with cover. I also keep very close track of my gas mileage.

Lowering the tailgate increases turbulence and drag, as per;

Yeah that's what I heard also. I've always thought the general consensus on tonneus was 1mpg better. I fully agree though the right foot is the key.
