Throttle Body Question (Help)

Default Throttle Body Question (Help)

Ok guys need a little help here. My throttle bogy has been sticking, so I took it back to the dealership (for the third time) and they cleaned out the throttle body and he said that he adjusted it a little bit, I guess he was talking about the blade. Anyway now when I am at a red light it has ruff idle and it is surging, the lights will dim and it is holding about 400 rpm. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Might be the TPS. Just a guess.

Did he take the TB off the truck and dissassemble it to clean it? If so, you may have a vacume leak from one of the lines or the intake/TB mating surface. You may also need to reset the IAC valve if for some reason it was removed and pushed in prior to reinstall, but usually that will cause it to idle high instead of low.

He did not take it off to clean it, just took off the air intake tube and opened up the blade and cleaned on the inside of the throttle body, and then he said he adjusted it a little. Thanks for the info. I will check the lines just to make sure.

Maybe he did something with the adjustment screw? That would worry me if he left the TB in place to clean it. Couldnt some of the dislodged crud be dumped into the intake manifold?

It is just carbon, it will burn up in the cylinder. I clean mine on the truck when it gets sticky too. Only thing I can see he adjusted then is the set screw but it sounds like he adjusted it the wrong way.

BigKID I am kind of new to this stuff, but where is the set screw located on the TB and which way should it need to be turned?

First of all, you don't just adjust that screw without have a Tech 2 or some other diagnostic scanner tool. That screw controls the thottle body plate position angle. Now what has probably happend is that the truck is at idle, but the TB sensor says the blade is open. This could be causing the surge. Take the truck back and tell the service manager to fix it right. You didn't have this problem before he touched it, you should not have it now!

Oh, that screw is where the cable hooks to the TB.

Thanks for the info GREGGO, I called them earlier and they said that the service manager who did it was out for the week, but I will take it back as soon as I can, I guess it won't hurt for it to do that till Monday.
