I don't agree with the checking contact pattern. You are not doing anything to change pinion depth and can't really read a correct pattern on a worn gear and pinion. All you need to do is clean the grease away and read backlash before removing. If it is within 1-2 thousands of your original reading on reassembly you will be good to go. Caution...the cast shims are easy to break!

Seems pretty accurate, I just did this 2 weeks ago and took a load of pics and am going to be putting a little article together using the eaton instructions that Eaton sent with it. There were a couple things that I didn't have that cost me some time, like a greaker bar to get the rear brakes off and a vice to hold the eaton to tighten the ring gear on to the specs. Also need a torque wrench that goes to 150 ft-lbs for the rear brake brackets.

Let me know if you have any questions, I should have that write-up by the first. Here is a link to the eaton instructions.

Those instructions referenced a video and some pictures ... was there a video that came with the unit?

I didn't get one, but those were pretty good with describing the steps, you may want to ask about the vid when you order.
