Hmmm, aluminum block. That'd save a lot of weight. That and a lighter weight drive shaft.

drive shaft only saves about 10-15 lbs from what I have been told. aluminum block would be good, but I don't want a ls1 if I get anything it would be iron 409. but that's way down the road. bumpers would be a good thing to get rid of. Their really heavy. don't forget skidplates

Stepsides weigh more. Someone a while back finally got some numbers that the stepsides were like 150lbs more.

Really ?
I would be surprised that a Stepside would weight less that short bed or long bed assy - but could be wrong.
You would think with all the 'glass

It is going to cost a lot to make carbon fiber fenders. I have been wanting to mess around with carbon fiber for a long time. I think I will buy some sheet and acrylic this summer and start experimenting. There is a guy on the board, Mark Coch, that does a lot of carbon fiber molding stuff. His work looks awesome and he sells his stuff too. You might look him up for advice for when you get serious.

I agree with Greg. Your truck is heavy because it is built on a steel frame. Composite panels are costly to fab. and you will still have the root of your problems, the frame, to deal with. Don't let my stupid self deter you though

Hey does anyone out there know if the 4.8/5.3/6.0/Z06 5.7 intake manifolds are interchangable. I have a 5.3 Silvy and need to upgrade the intake manifold. Ready for supercharger's forced induction.

You're next question should be why are you hijacking my thread.

I can get the carbon fiber sheet cheap in town. Something like $9 a yard. Pretty good size. That and I won't have to use expensive clear epoxy, I can use regular resin. Unless you don't want to paint it and leave it all sexy carbon fiber. I know my spray in liner is no help to the quest for losing weight.
