Default Thermostat: 160 degree or 180 degree and WHY?

Ok i noticed people on here running 160 degree thermostats on their trucks and was wondering as to why? I was thinking about changing mine because my truck tends to stay between 200-210 degrees. I was told a long time ago that for a carb'd motor you run a 160 degree and for a EFI motor to run a 180 degree. Any answers from someone who actually knows? Thanks,
Chris

My understanding:
the cooler you run it the more timing it can take without detenation
*on a carbed motor you are only running a vacuum advance at best, so you have even less room to play with, so cooler is better
*on a tbi, mpfi etc you have sometype of electronic control of your spark. this allows more variables into the mix and the more control, the warmer it can be

this is all theory of my own, and none of it has been proven as fact to the best of my knowledge

Why would you NOT want it cooler?

The 180* for stock to mild modded N/A motors and 160* stat for mild-wild N/A applications or FI applications.
Put it this way, I'm using a 160* stat, and I lost 1 mpg average. The only benefit was lower trans temps.
The only reason why I'm leaving mine in is because I'm about to install a S/C.
Take it how you want, it's up to you.

Try SLP performance or vendor.

Check your stock ECT, stock stat is 187* I believe since thats what my ECT is at cruise at about 80* outside temp. My mileage dropped 2mpg running a 180*Hypercrap stat. I believe lower T-stats are are only usefull for FI or gas on LSX engines
