Is there a header with perfect fitment?

Ok so still undecided about cats...but I will figure that out.
If you use a Y-pipe, it connects the two collectors into one pipe, right? And then, that one pipe goes into a single inlet muffler, and exits with a dual outlet...thus making a dual exhaust. Am I correct in assuming that?
Now I know true duals arent the best for low end power (which is my preference, as opposed to top end). But for sake of helping me clarify...if you use a Y-pipe, when does that single pipe split in order to have a true dual system with 2 seperate pipes, each with their own muffler?? Can an X-pipe come into play anywhere?
gosh, i dont know why this confuses me so much..

I could set you up with some American Racing Headers with a dual 3" outlet instead of a Y-pipe. Then you could add your X-pipe and dual exhaust to that. Send me a PM if you'd like more info.
The fit & quality of ARH headers is always great, they make GREAT power, and they install easily.

So I just got off the phone with a local exhaust shop...and he told me that long tube headers won't work good with my truck because they will rattle and I'll lose a bunch of top end...WtF?! I think he is full of crap

I lost some low end but picked up a good amount of top end. They won't "rattle," but you will have what sounds like an exhaust leak in the cab from the thinner walled tubing compared to stock cast iron manifolds.
