I'm going to be getting some track times for my 04 GMC 4wd tonight at Pittsburgh Raceway Park. Are some of the better times attained with using 4w hi, or just in 2wd? Will it do any damage to the 4wd unit? I just want to get some baseline numbers.

 

Keep it 2wd if you're stock. Running it in 4hi won't damage anything but will make you run about 3-4 tenths slower.

 

Depends on who you talk to. I use 4hi to launch hard off the line. Hold the brake, floor the gas, let off brake when light turn green. Very good 60' time. Ran in two wheel and horrilbe 60'times. But I can't speak for the 1/2 tons though. if its a hd 3/4 ton go for it. when in 4hi just make sure that your tie rod are level with the centerlink. So they don't bend on launch.

 

Ok....here's the times from the night at the strip. 1st run:16.44@82mph
2nd run:16.30@84.04, and the 3rd run:16.24@84.16. Not bad for a totally stock 04 Gmc 5.3 4wd. I'm kind of pleased. We'll see what next week will bring with a few air box mods. Anybody got any ideas? Yeah....tihs stuff gets addicting! And I should know, after spending the last 25 years working on Top Alcohol Dragsters, Top Fuelers, Pro Stock Trucks, Super Stockers. Last night was the first time in a LONG time I actually had fun at the track!
