Default Temp Gauge install

Going to be installing an autometer C2 trans temp gauge in my silverado, i can do the wiring/ electrical and mounting, but my question is about the sending unit. I hear some guys place it in a test port while others drill holes in the pan and place it there. i would much rather put it in the test port so that I wouldnt have to put a big hole in my trans. I was also wondering if there was a stock unit that reads temperature that i could splice into, instead of using the prvided sending unit? I know we dont have the trans temp gauges from the factory, but doesnt the trans temp work if you install a escalade cluster? Any info is appreciated.

An SS cluster has it also. You can swap out but you will still need to wire to a sending unit. Don't think the stock harness already has this provision.

The SS cluster won't work in his truck, but yes, the stock wiring has provisions for this, even if it isn't provided from the factory.

You CAN get a Denali cluster and put in your truck and it will work. The only thing you will have to do is to get the new cluster reprogrammed with the mileage and the engine hours.

Yeah i knew about the cluster swap, i was just wondering about tapping in a pillar gauge in the dash instead of running wires through the firewall and whatnot. do any of you know the colors of the wires for the trans temp sending unit? or anyone with a wiring diagram? Thanks for yalls help

No idea ... you might make a new post referencing something about needing a wiring diagram. I know a few guys here have a good service manual, but I don't remember who it is.

hey stoopid....
j/k
sorry couldn't pass that one up.
I ran mine down to the trans with the sending unit screwing in right above the shifting linkage. there was a bolt in there already and i just unscrewed it and screwed the sending unit in its place. not hard at all. plus i already had a place to go through the fire wall with it. it only took one wire the rest stayed up in the dash.

BTW your truck looks good in your sig

lol thanks Thunder, Im going to check into the bolt by the linkage. Also, the autometer installation instructions recommend putting silicon or pipe fitting tape around the sending unit, but i've heard some say that this was a bad idea incase something went into the trans. Did you you use the tape?

yeah i used the tape as per the intructions and havnt heard its bad. but o well. hopefully nothing happens.
I only put tape on the threads and not a lot of it.
make sure you go the correct way on it so it doesnt unravel when you screw it in

I installed my sending unit for my trans gage in a aluminum manifold sold by autometer that you install in the transmition line coming from the transmition to the cooler. You can also install the sending unit in the test port on the side of the transmition if you didn't want to do it like I did.

having trouble finding the right wire for the air/ feul gauge. I cant find the o2 sensor wire under the dash. Anyone know the color of it? its the only thing keeping my gauge setup from working. The trans gauge is good
