Default Talk to me about DOD/AFM

I'm looking at a 2010 Sierra with the 5.3. Sharp truck, black, ECSB Z71. It has the DOD on it, and I have heard that the system caused it's own issues with oil consumption and other valve train concerns.

I know it can be tuned out. Can a canned tuner do that? I am planning on, either this truck or whatever I find, to do a solid bolt on and cam work, and a converter.

Obviously with those modifications there would have to be a custom tune. I don't want to have to keep pulling the computer and sending it back and forth to Black Bear, but I know as I go step by step new tunes would have to be added. With a canned tuner I was just hoping to be able to turn that off for now, see about picking up a used one that I can turn around and sell and get my money back out of.

The truck has about 200,000 miles on it. With that many miles and that system on there, do I need to be wary of the truck and the valve train because of that system?

Completely unrelated question, at what point does an 80e need to be looked at?

I don't know what other handheld tuner do the AFM/DoD disable but for sure HP Tuners and EFI live can do that. If you already plan to mod it and then go further you are better off just buying either one of those as they are real tuners unlike something from diablo.

200,000 miles is a lot, if taken care of and no abnormal noises the motor "should" be healthy but I'd still disable the Dod/AFM.

The truck already has a 80e, the 6 speed 6L80e being a 2010 model year. That transmission in good working order can handle 500-600hp no problem if tuned correctly.

Well, that truck sold late today, I couldnt get there until Saturday. Oh well, **** happens.

They did get one with 143K thats ready to go as well, but still a DOD/AFM truck (LY5, DOD from all that I can tell). It is a 2009. Looks to be a 6 speed, so shouldnt be any trans issues (please tell me thats true)

Both trucks have the same 6L80E. The one that sold was Flex Fuel with an aluminum block and this LY5 has an iron block and takes only regular gas. Is this one 2WD? Well, come to think of it, it is possible that the 2009 has a 4L80E as the six speed was introduced late in the model year, the higher optioned trucks getting them first.

You can also get a Range Technology device to turn off the AFM. With an AutoCal, you do not have to remove your ECM to have Black Bear update it, he'll email you the new tune and you flash the ECM with the AutoCal.

The LTZ trims in 2009 got the 6L80e, if it's a standard Lt trim or whatever GMC's middle trims is it's more than likely just a 4L60e.

If the cluster shows PRND321 instead of PRNDM then it's a 4 speed transmission.

Found a different truck, 04 Z71 ECSB for a steal, only has 99K on it.

Its out front now.

Looking at go fast parts for a 04 vs the NNBS trucks now.

I like the stance, except in some places it looks like there is a bit of the gay squat. 305/70R17 on the GMC 6 spoke wheels.

Needs a bit of cleaning up, and a few plastics need replacing, but overall it's a solid truck. TBars are cranked solid so the ride up front is tight, but I am going to replace the shocks with something a bit longer and and tweak from there
