Default Tail pipe diameter question....

I'm considering changing my magnaflow SI/DO (18" case) over to a single 3" in / single 3" out hooker aerochamber (14" case) because I'm just not happy with the magnaflow sound. I will dump it over the axle so I assume the pipe after the muffler (tail pipe) would be 3" right? Also, I am assuming this setup will be a little louder than my existing magnaflow setup (forward of the muffler is all factory) which is what I'm looking for, but without the magnaflow drone. I'm looking for a deeper tone, a little louder, but minimal drone.....Will this get me there?

Well, I think the Aerochamber will be quieter than your magnaflow but yes other than that, you should be good.

Quieter? Even though I'm going from an 18" case to a 14" case?

Yup, I have an aerochamber on my 07 4.8 and it is louder than I thought at idle, but dead quiet driving. With my windows open I can't even hear it. At WOT its loud as hell, but I've got it dumped and it sounds like air blowing thru a hollow tube. I'm getting ready to swap to a 4x9x14 magnaflow. On a side note, the 5x8x18 magnaflow I had on my other truck originally was louder than the aerochamber

The aerochamber does have a very nice deep tone to it though at startup and idle.

A lot of the F-body guys like the Borla XR-1 because it doesn't drone, sounds mean at idle and cruise, espacially at WOT.
