I only have 5100 miles
I changed it after the first 100 miles and
used Mobil 1 5w30
I see alot of comment here in the post about it being
real thin - and they are right - It is real thin.
At 6k I will change it again using Mobil 1 10w30
I also use a GM PF 59 filter longer than the PF53.
I have used Mobil 1 10w30 in my 91 since new - under the valve cover is like new and my oil pressure went up in both trucks after the switch.

I've been running Mobil 1 5w30 and a K&N 2006 filter since 500 miles on the truck. It now has over 20K. No problems!

I was under the impression that it wasn't a good idea to switch to synthetic until after the complete break-in period.
(please correct me if I'm wrong). I want to say I read over on pickuptruck.com or pacific-audio.com that people have experienced problems with switching from conventional oil to synthetic.

i switched over to mobil 1 10w30 at like 15K, i now have 35K on my truck with no problems. i change the oil ever 5K miles, and when i changed it last weekend the oil still looked somewhat clean. and if anyone is gunna cause premature oil wear its me, my throttle only has two positions, ALL and NONE.

I read that it is bad to switch to synthectic after a long period of time. here is a good link.click on The Engine Oil Bible on the left.

Not saying you shouldn't run it at all, just saying that you should probably let the engine properly break in with dino oil first. I've running Mobile 1 10w 30 since around 25k and everything is going smooth.
