Don't you run some antifreeze in the exchanger? You should if you drive it in or store it in cold weather anyway. Shouldn't have a problem there.

From what I understand with the N-tercooler, it literaly freezes the IC or in this case the heat exchanger. Even if there's anti-freeze, you still run the risk of getting the coolant way below 32*F. Just my thoughts. I'm not sure what anti-freezes freezes at, because that's never been an issue here. But with the phase change that the N-tercooler provides, it stands to pull a lot of Btu's out of that heat exchanger possibly to a dangerous point.

With the heat exchanger, you'd be better off putting a fan or ducting on it and try to get more forced convection across it. The n-tercooler provides conduction by having ice form on the surface, which usually isn't as effective as forced convection. Increasing fin area/efficiecy and flow I think would be more effective. JMO!

Considering the steady heat output from the engine that gets sent to the heat exchanger, it would be difficult to freeze it up. On the other hand, if you are going to spray Nitrous, why waste it on the heat exchanger? Put it on the intake Superchargers and a bit of Nitrous are a cool combo, if your drivetrain can handle it.

Most people don't spray nitrous through it, due to the fact that it's expenssive and it freezes so easily. Everytime I see some import guy (usually Evo's/WRX's) running one of these kits, they run CO2 through it. It's cheaper and I guess it doesn't leave such a mess.

I don't see the point here. If you're basically going to install a nitrous kit, you might as well reap the benefits and spray it where it counts.

I think that's why its not more popular. You only get a short burst of power, which is what you would get with spraying it through the engine. I have never seen any dyno numbers on these, but I'm willing to bet a 50shot through a hot *** FI air would be worth more power. I bet it would even cool the air off more, because the air into the engine (not on the outside of the IC) is going to directly experience the phase change N2O provides. To each his own I guess.
