Default STS turbo lag?

im curious as to how this kit doesnt lag hardcore considering the position of the intake and turbo. It seems like having it mounted underneath and to the rear would definatly cause some sort of noticeable lag. can someone shed more light on this?

Not enough lag to worry about. Boost come on under 2000 rpms.

I could be mistaken, but i believe they use a rather small exhaust housing to spool it and use a good sized wastegate. Turbo's use heat to help spool, so if you take alot of that heat away you have to make up for it somehow.

Hey Jerry, do you still have pics of your kit on your truck? How did you thread the oil return into the oil pan?

I put it in the oil pump block off plate.

No real lag unless you go way too big on the turbo like I did.

And Almost no lag when you buy the STS kit for a 5.3 and swap a 6.0.

Thats the supply, not the return right? I'm just looking for other options besides using the oil drain plug. What ever I use it has to be somewhat low in the pan, cuz I'm still using gravity drain. I've got the turbo tucked up nice and high with the body lift. So no oil return pump to buy or go bad.

Opps my bad, my return goes to the oil filler cap. But that won't do you any good without a pump.

Unfortunately for you the STS uses a high return point. They threaded the oil cap in the passenger valve cover and return the oil there. Sorry but that probably will not help you out.

Here is how Vortech does it with their kit. You can download the Installation manual for your truck to see how they do it. Maybe it will give you some ideas or you can get their installation tool and do it the way they do by putting a hole in the oil pan to drain the oil from your turbo.

5. OIL DRAIN LINE
A. To provide an oil drain for the supercharger, it is
necessary to make a hole in the oil pan. Locate
and centerpunch the hole per Fig. 5-a. Drill a
1/8” pilot hole at center location.
B. Use the supplied 9/16” rotobroach to drill the
hole in the oil pan. Take care to break through
the pan gently and remove the cut out.
C. Pack the flutes of a 3/8 NPT tap with grease. Tap
the hole until the fitting can be started.
D. Thoroughly clean the threaded area. Reach
inside the oil pan and retrieve any stray chips.
Apply a small amount of sealer to the new
threads. Apply more sealer to the supplied 3/8”
NPT hex nipple and secure in the hole. Make
sure the seal is formed all around the fitting.
Install the supplied 90° elbow and 3/8 NPT x 1/2”
barb fitting pointing forward and slightly up.
E. Route the oil drain hose from the supercharger
to the barb fitting, attach and tighten the hose
clamp. (See Fig. 5-a.)

IMPORTANT!: Oil in the supercharger is gravity
drained to the oil pan. Trim the sup-
plied oil drain hose as necessary so
that it is continuously sloping down
towards the oil pan. Avoid dips, kinks
etc.

Sorry Fig. 5-a would not cut and paste but you can download the PDF from their site if you think you are interested.

Good luck and get r done.
