Cool

I have had a STS Turbo on my lowered 1500HD for 2 months or so and so far the filter looks as clean as when I installed it. No salt or slush to report yet and I basically stay on the pavement so no mud either. I do drive in the rain but I try to avoid the puddles but I always did that anyway. So far no problems to report.

Jerry2500 has had his for almost a year I think and he has had no problem so far as I know. Maybe he will check in and let you know or you can PM him.

Be wary of standing water and driving hard under boost into water buildup on the highway.

There are lot of people on here with the STS. There are very few that have had any problems with getting any water in there turbo. I haven't. You would almost have to submerge the truck in 2 1/2 feet of water. The turbo is tucked way up in between the frame rails on the trucks. The only thing I am thinking of doing with my is adding a prefilter. Where I live in BFE there is a lot of gravel roads and the filter tends to get dirty faster, but its really not a big deal, just have to clean it about every month or two. If you drive mostly on paved road, then this isn't a problem.

I've been thinking about a way to at least get an enclosure around mine and started looking at anything I could use a an air-box. Finally when looking through a Farm+Fleet ad i saw a battery box for marine applications and thought hmmmm, a few well placed holes and some brackets and a cheap air box enclosure could be made. The top wold be removeable and you could put a drain on it too.
Haven't done it yet, have to go meausure one up and see if it will fit Under there.
I know it sounds ghetto but it doesn't have to be totally sealed, just another line of defense when driving in thunderstorms or on roads with allot of potholes and puddles.

Plus the filter "sock" will help protect it. I run one of these kits on my GTO (intercooled version). The car usually doesn't see rain so I usually have the sock off.

Same here, but I've only had mine for about six months.

I run the prefilter on mine and have had no major problems. Don't let this steer you away from the sts... the horsepower the turbo makes is well worth it. I have had these two things happen-
I no longer go in the drive thru car wash due to the bottom blaster soaking the filter, when I drive out the truck will miss a few times, I don't think water is actually going into the engine. Maybe just getting on the maf sensor. I've also had it miss a few times while driving in the rain at 70mph on a long trip.

On the other hand, during a severe storm, the streets were flooded and I crossed many places where the water was at the bottom of my doors, but it never missed a beat. I just idled through it. The filter is actually higher than the bottom of the cab so I think water would have to start filling the cab first before getting the filter submereged.
