Default Sts Intercooler Results

Yesterday I installed a small IC mounted under the passenger door next to the frame. The core measures 24" x 8" x 3.5" with 2.5" inlet/outlet. It was very easy to put on, I just removed a section of pipe and trimmed a fews inches from the other pipes.
My IAT's use to run about 30-40 degrees above outside air and would soar to over 160 on a 1/4 mile pass at just 5lbs. Now with the IC on, in 50 degree air, cruising iat is around 80 degrees and a 1/4 mile pass makes 105-120 degrees.

Today I decided to make a small air scoop out of sheet metal. The opening on the front is about 4". I then bent the front edge down another 1.5" like an air dam on the front of a car. This scoop made a big difference.
Now, IAT's are around 72-80 in 50 degree air and after a 1/4 mile pass even turning the boost up from 5 to 7lbs they only rose to around 90 degrees. After lifting, they quickly returned to 80.

This style of IC is definitly worth the little time and money spent. Although later I plan on moving it to the front in hopes of getting the cruising IAT's lower. Hopefully knock another 10-15 degress off.

Nice results, time to order one for the Dodge. Especially like the difference with the scoop.
Now if Jerry2500 decided to try out the cooling fan thing and post the results....

Right on man

Now get it retuned for the cooler air and watch the power rise.

F8L Z71, I thought about getting it retuned. I don't have a wideband, but my 02's were between 905-915 and now after the intercooler they're around .930
I guess this is a much safer area? I can just turn the boost up another lb or 2.

I didn't think about a fan. If there is enough room to mount a small 7-8" fan on top near the back of the IC to help draw in more air, I bet it would lower drivng slow in town IAT's.

Hey don't give all my ideas away I just haven't found the time to do it yet. I'm glad it worked out for you ron. I finally got my boost controller on thursday and pushed it to 8psi and IAT's never got above 80* and it was 50* out. I'm replacing a broken exhaust manifold bolt this weekend. I have to take the head off to remove it because it's the one all the way in the back by the firewall. Can't even get an angle drill in there.

use a small 90 degree angle grinder and just throw a bit into it. If you dont have one they have them at sears or lowes. You should be about to pick up a decent one for around 50 dollars. Then turn up your air compressor and let her rip.
