Sts intercooler ideas
#1
Just want to throw this idea out there, and like to know if anyone has ever tried it.
Since the sts turbo kit has the intake pipe already starting in the rear under the bed. I figured you could send the pipe through the floor of the bed and into a small intercooler thats mounted inside a box, then fill the box with a bag of ice.
I'm sure the draw backs would be the ice melting too fast, but it might be good for the track or playing around town. Insulated and it might last a while. You could run 5lbs normally and then spend a $1 for a bag of ice and turn the boost up. Possibly have intake temps cooler than outside air?
Anyone done this yet?
I would like to try it, but I'm having second thoughts about cutting holes in my bed, its only 4 months old.

Its a good idea. The box in the link is a little silly, even tough it probably works there is most likely an easier way to get the intake temps down. How about a double wall section of pipe to replace some of the STS piping and have the space between pipes filled with freon or whatever thay use in the air conditioning system now. Then just get a pump to send the liquid through a small radiator to let it shed heat. I guess along the same principal of the air conditioner. This may be better than just a air to water intercooler, definetly better than an air to air anyways. The only thing I don't like about the cooler type is cutting into the bed to run pipe through it. For a serious modder I guess its ok. I bought the STS kit for many reasons, and one of them is the lack of hacking into your vehicle required to install it. Just my 2 pennies.

Thats a cool setup on ebay exactly what I was thinking. To bad I don't want to cut the bed just yet. Maybe in the future. I'm probably going to use a small intercooler under the passenger door for right now, and then add a meth injection.
