Stroker ideas.

In the future I will be looking to do a mild stroker focusing on torque, since this lowly 4.8 is not quite cutting it. Here's my idea:
4.8/5.3 block
Bore to 3.810"
JE Ford 2.3L pistons, 1.090" comp. height, .927" pin, -1cc dish.
4" stroker crank, most likely Eagle.
6.125" con rods, prolly Callies Compstar.
6.0 heads @72cc's
Deck the block to 9.215" for a zero deck and have the pistons milled for a 7cc dish. That should put me at 9.5:1 with .045" cometics at a 3.910" bore.
And then most likely a small cam like a 206/212 112 from comp or something along the lines of a Zo6 camshaft.

365ci, the "other" 6.0L. Or you could have the block decked another .027" and use stock rods if you want to keep it a budjet engine. Or find some pistons with a little taller pin height. Good idea, I always like thinking outside of the box.

About the pistons: I searched JE's site for off the shelf pistons that were close to that magic 1.115" compression height and that were bigger than the stock 3.78" bore, but smaller than the 3.905" stroker pistons for the LSx. I figured the small bore, long stroke with good flowing heads would be a torque monster.
What first got me going about the small bore stroker was the idea of the heads lifting on those high boost LSx applications. I figured that a smaller bore would expose less surface area to high cylinder pressures. Plus the increased area that the head has on the deck might give a better seal. Pretty much all speculation until I actually go through with it.

If it was me I'd just bore to the 3.898-3.905 LS1 pistons. I think there are a lot of off the shelf pistons for 4" stroke for the ls1's from JE, Mahle, and Diamond. I'd imagine the block could handle the .052" decking. The other option is getting some pistons with slightly too much pin height and mill the top of the pistons down to where you want it. You could probably cut .040" off any piston and not have any problems. Maybe more depending on the piston.

Yeah, I think that the 3.905" bore would be the easier option. Although, the idea if an off the wall stroker using differrent pistons would be pretty cool. Once I have the $$$, I'm going for it.
