ss 5.7 in a truck
#1
My motor now has 82k on it so I have been thinking of getting a motor ready to replace it with. This last weekend a guy in my town wrapped his 2001 ss around a pole. The car was paid off so they didnt keep full coverage on it. He said I could have the motor, tranny, and wiring harness for $1500. Is this a good deal. the car only had 28k on it? how much of a pain in the *** would this be?

As far as I know all you would need is the motor, pcm.
You will be able to re-use your wiring harness and you should stay with your intake. You will also need to keep your oil pan from the truck.
I don't think it would be a very hard swap at all. But I would upgrade a few things on the motor before you drop it in just to make things easier and take care of them now instead of later. Like a modified oil pump, cam, pushrods...

Thats a great deal if everything is still in good shape. You won't need the PCM or any of the wire harnesses. You could sell that. The 2001 would come with a LS6 intake. Keep your truck intake and injectors. The LS6 intake would sell in the classifieds for $350. Keep your transmission, sell the SS's transmission. That will bring some nice change too. If you sell off all the parts you don't need, you could probably end up keeping the longblock for very little total out of pocket money. Do it!
For the swap - The longblock would be a direct swap in. Same motor mounts and everything. Use all of your existing accessories. The only difference that I know of is the alternator will have one hole misaligned. That shouldn't be any problem though. Your PCM would work fine, but you might think about getting some custom tuning in the future.
