Hey, I have a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer SS 6.0L with the 4L70E. I would like to swap the the 4 speed automatic transmission for the 6 speed transmission automatic. I don't know anything about the VVT and if TBSS has VVT. Can the ECM in my TBSS be programmed to run the 6 speed transmission and if the ECM can be programed what I would need is a modified driveshft and a reprogrammed ECM to make this project work or is there anything else I'm missing?

WOW! I know that I'm coming in a little late for this but if anyone has any more info on the 6l90/80 swap into a TBSS, or other LS2 powered vehicle please post it up.......I own an 08 Trailblazer SS and would LOVE to get over 20MPG and be able to not worry about rebuilding a trans more than once when I put a blower on my truck.......THIS IS IT for the TBSS guys.....I know that all of the 08's are "CAN".....so we have the wiring to run this trans...is that correct? If it is...all we need is a modified cross member, modified drive shaft, and someone to play with the ECU.......hopefully it's only a matter of time...and if the TBSS guys can keep the stock guage bezel (instead of getting a denali/escalade) for the gear shift indicator to work like stock.....wow....I don't think my wife would even notice.....HA HA.....hope to see more info on this.....lets keep it going.....if I missed another thread...I'm sorry...just hook me up with a link to that one so I can lear along with everyone....

John, Speedcraft Prototypes, did they modify your stock 5", 72" long driveshaft or make you a completely new one. Do you have any specs on it? high speed balanced, diameter etc? Shoot me a PM if you feel like it, don't want to dirty the thread.

I had Speedcraft modify the stock driveshaft. My stock shaft was 66" from weld bead to weld bead and we needed approximately 2.5" more. I went to the junkyard and got another stock driveshaft and cut the end off of it (with the additional 2.5" added in) and cut the end off of mine. He simply lined it all up and heli-arced the longer end back on.

No high speed balance or anything. There's no detectable vibration at high speed and its had many 1/4 mile blasts now with no problems. He is an exceptional welder though, which helps.

John

John (and anyone else interested),

The 6L80E was designed to fit where a TH400 was previously installed, this comes from a good friend of mine that is a GM Powertrain Engineer that worked on this project. They had conversion projects in mind when designing the overall size and mount point of the 6L80E. Hope this helps.

By the way, nice work John!

That is a pretty neat little swap. I was under the impresion that the controller for the tranny was down in the pan of the tranny now, does it still need to talk to the engine ecm? I bet TCI comes out with some kinda piggyback controller in the next 6 months to a year to retofit in an older vehicle. I want one for both my third and forth gen birds. I know I will have to get a torque arm braket relocator, but I wonder what the tunnel clearance is since it looks a bit fater than a 4l60e. How about the length of it, much longer maybe?

Can this tranny be setup to run as a standalone behind a standalone '05 LQ4 in a 72 4x4 Blazer?
