Default Single Turbo

Hi there, new to the site, just checking in.

I have a reg cab step side 5.3 4L60E

Mods: Transgo kit (very firm)
DJM 2-4 lower
255/50/16's on stock rims

Plan: Electric fan in front of rad
Single turbo in front of pulleys
(just enough room)
Duramax intercooler

The turbo I have was pushing 15psi on a 5.7
I figure if I can set the wastegate to 5psi for starters and play from there.

The trouble is the PCM is stock. Since lean is mean. I don't want to melt anything. I'm looking for someone within a day or two that has LS1 edit (or something) 500 USD gets close to 800 CAN$ by the time I get it. That seems like a lot of money for some software and a patch cord. If I'm not mistaken, all the program does is change a few parameters in a register. I'm surprised there are no pirate or "amatuer" setups out there. If I wait, I'm sure GM will issue something.

Its strange to wait for something you need to go faster

welcome to the site.

i was just wondering about your tires. right now i am running a 275/65/16 on stock rims. i also have a 2/4 drop but i was wanting to go with a lower profile tire, but not look stupid because of the stock rims. is yours pretty low? any traction problems? if you have any pictures i would like to see them. if not oh well....

I had 255/50/16s tires on my ride. With that profile I had traction problems. Not much rubber to work with.

Here's a pic.

The drop is a 3/4 from Belltech.

Traction is good when I run 28psi. Remember engine is stock and 3.42 gears. At 35psi, the rated preasure, it's easy to spin. Much better for sliding in the corners <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I just had a set of Toyo's put on the truck. They are 275/60/16's on the stock rims. At first I was not very pleased with the look with my truck being 4wd and all but it has grown on me a bit. They Toyo's have awsome traction on both wet and dry roads. You should be fine if you have a 2wd truck that has been dropped.

Hi another neuby here. 99GMC you'll well probable have to use a Duramax radiator too. The Duramax radiator bolts to the intercooler then bolts to the normal radiator mounts. Also if your truck has a engine oil cooler you will have to mount another cooler up front. Diesel engines generally have oil cooler built in to the engine its self. I knew that idea was too simple to be the only one to think of it. I trying to do the same with my 8.1L but Im currently on the hunt for a turbo that will work for me. Hopefully I can find one off of a production diesel engine they usually are cheaper.
