Default Silverado SS vs. Lightning

The 8/03 issue of Truckin' Magazine has an shootout between the Silverado SS and Ligntning.

A few quick specs -

....................SS...........Lightning

Price as tested - $40,620.........$33,495.
HP - ............345 @ 5200......380 @ 4750
torque - ........380 @ 4000......450 @ 3250
weight - ..........4919.............4670

ETs - we know what happened ...

...............16.06 @ 86.23....14.68 @ 98.37

GM should have bolted a RADIX supercharger on to the 6.0. This would have put it in Lightning territory.

Ive seen 100% stock lightnings hit 13.5s at the track. The new SS in my openion is a good platfom to build on for a rich man, and nothing more than a poor mans wet dream. Chevy should make the SS engine an option in the reg cab base models like Dodge did with the Hemi(not that there any good).

Yeah, I test drove one of these trucks and thought "Whats the big deal" My stock GMC felt just as lively without the large size boat feeling. This thing really modified would be just a monster though, and all wheel drive for the launches, OUCH!

it is crazy how much latitude and weather make a difference in et times. thats why its really pointless to have a fastest truck list, unless all the trucks were ran at the same track.

Thoes times pretty unexpected, but the elevation, track and weather conditions are just a part of the game and show prowess in your abilitys. If not for these obsticles I don't think drag racing would have evolved well as it has.

I saw the SS that Cherolet should build at the Hot Rod Power Tour.Regular Cab 395hp 6.0 with 6speed Tahoe rear suspension and rubber floor mat.Slap a Radix on that beast and you would have mean machine.I asked the Chevrolet people if they were going to build that truck and they said no.

One of 'our' L tuners bought a new 01 L. He drove from the dealer to the track and laid down a 13.2xx@102.xx----with 6 miles on the odo. and a full tank og gas. Of course, he knows how to launch one--oh yeah, he 'do'!

man those are some serious bullshit numbers. I cant believe how slow they both are in that test. Do you know what the 1/8 mile times were?

My truck ran a hell of a lot quicker than that and i know my intake and fans arent the whole reason
