Don't judge all L owners. I used to have an '01. If the converter is a higher stall it's not by much. It's still a pretty good lug on the shifts. I had a blast in mine, and it towed 5,300# of car and trailer VERY well. It never got out of OD, even going up hills. When added power was needed it just threw some boost in. I didn't have it for very long because I was missing an f-body BAD. Their downsides are the weak trans and damn leaky intercoolers, among other things. Mine would drink a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Once you pass 30k on one, it usually becomes a big problem child. I've heard TONS of stories from L owners that had a lot of problems once they rolled over between 30k-40k. They do live a hard life. If I were ever to do it again, I'd definitely buy a Chevy or GMC, and swap heads/cam. You could have an easy 330-350 N/A HP from a VERY MILD cam. Hell, I'd probably just take the plunge and let Joseph build me a 6.0L for it.
