should i buy an SS?

i love my current truck. it performs great. i have a g-tech coming soon, so i can post some numbers. no idea what is runs. it is a pretty heavy 1/2 ton truck (EC & 4x4). probably have the g-tech competition #'s posted by friday. like to get them in before the weather warms. but recently, crazy thoughts of buying a silverado ss have been running through my mind. my dealer down the road is supposed to get 3 in sometime this month. i have the money, no problem. but not the heart to part with my current truck. if i bought one, what mods do you think i could do to it (lets keep it under $5000)?

get it, then get some cheap heads, and a good cam, 918 springs, hardened pushrods and good gears with a stall and you should be decently under $5,000, and have one fast *** truck. maybe throw some nitrous oxide on it as well. i say go for it.

the ss truck has a 4L65E,it's in the hummer too. i don't know what all is different about the two. the 65E is a little beefier it hink, it is more like a bigger/built 4L60E. that's pretty much all i know about it so far.

WELL... i am going to have to vote for keeping your existing truck and dumping the money you would have spent on the ss into your truck.
performance wise for your dollar this would be your best bet.
only reason to go with the SS would be if you really loved the looks. you could drop your truck some and put some cool wheels and tires on it for ALOT less money.
with some serious mods i don't think the 4L65E would last much longer than a 60, when you get a performance rebuild they can put the 5pinion sprags that the 4l65E have for about $320, maybe less now.

i get alot of looks when i'm in my truck, even though it is all stock (wheels, suspension, airdam). it is rare around here because it is an EC sportside. SS would be a rare truck too, but i still love the sportside of the '99-'02. so i don't want to part w/ her. not sure what else i could do for performance mods w/o interfeering (sp.) w/ the HPP3. i think headers might screw up the timing. the only thing i can think of is pullies and e-fans. what do you guys think?

Dude forget the HPP3, if you can afford an SS, you can afford LS1Edit. I also say just keep your current truck and put 20s on and a couple thousand in engine work and spank the 3 people that buy those SS's.

Well Mike, here's my .02 Keep your truck for now, and wait another year for GM to come out with the "real" SS. We all know damn well that they will come out with the regular cab... probably even up the power on it. I think there has been enough people expressing disappointment in the lack of power, that they will do something about it. I might even hold out for the Trailblazer SS, that is a sweet looking ride. IMO, keep yours, put some money in it, and just wait... I think there are some good things coming out of the General in the next couple of years.
