Default Is it safe to be in "Drive" when using Tow/Haul? Or not?

Just wondering if you should be in "Drive" whenever you are using tow/haul for towing purposes or if you should be in 3rd. I sometime haul an open car trailer with a car on it of course and I was just wondering what would be a better gear to tow in for your tranny "Drive" or 3?
Thanks!

depends on the roads. if it were hilly and constantly up and down, i would be in 3rd. if it were a flat road, then i might use OD. but this depends on the weight as well. you just don't want it to shift back and forth from 3rd to OD.

I tow in 'D' all the time. I tow a jet boat that weighs in around 3500#. I have been doing it this way for 4 years and not had a problem yet. I have towed as fast as 90mph this way. The computer is smart and at the slightest hint of a load it will automatically drop out of o/d and into 3rd sometimes 2nd. No worries, I think they did their homework when they set these trucks up.
