Who ever said the oil comming out clean was a good thing? Doesn't that just mean that the oil is leaving the sludge and contaminates in the engine that it is suppose to be absorbing?

Also, while there is nothing wrong with the K&N filters they are not worth the cost over say a comparable Wix. Unless you just like the name or have to have the nut on the bottom of your filter.

I pay $6 for the k&n filter and $3.50/qt for the royal purple, cheap enough for me and my truck seems to like it.

Well good for you. Either you have the ability to get a better deal on the stuff than I have ever seen anywhere or you are full of crap, but I'm not paying $10 for a filter and $6/qt price that most of the rest world has to pay. If you have proof of your cost then I might be a little more inclined to believe you, but sounds a little far fetched too me.

no, clean oil is good. rp just like other synthetic oils are good for extended oil changes just change the filter, and any filter changed at short intervals(no more than 3k) is great for the engine. synthetics (i think) release the dirt and trash in the filter better than conv oil. wix is good. but i like good ol' ac delco. I agree that k&n oil filters are overkill. just my $.02.

I work at 4wheelparts and we sell the royal purple at a ridiculous 56% profit. The k&n filters are marked up 40% which drops my oil change price to about $30 with tax. I've had awesome luck with royal purple and would pay more for the product if I didn't get a deal on it. The filter is fairly overpriced in my opinion and I would not buy them if I had to pay a ridiculous $10 for a damn oil filter with a 1" nut for lazy ***** like myself.

I never cared what oil and filter cost me. I just want the best. THIS IS OIL that is going to protect that expensive engine. I'll pay 100 bucks an oil change.....

Trip over a dollar to pick up a dime........

Well that's cool you can get it at cost. It's really sad to hear that the markup on that stuff is so high. That makes it hard for me to justify paying the price they are asking. If it was really that good of stuff and they could offer it at a reasonable price then they would be selling more of it than they could currently produce. I'm not trying to imply that it's bad oil or anything, all I'm saying is I think it is way over priced.

I would agree with you here. The only problem is how does anyone know what the "best" is. I have seen so many arguments for and against so many different oils. Just because it's more expensive doesn't by any means make it the best. Even the Royal Purple guy on here has failed to provide any reliable scientific evidence or tests that prove their oil is any better than any other. I looked at the website and I could not find anything but propaganda their.

I guess this discussion is going to be like the hundreds of others I have seen on different boards and websites with no conclusive evidence or agreement on anything.

I try and keep up with the oil analysis on BITOG...........seems like Mobil1, Amsoil, and Redline continue to be favorites..........RP doesn't seem to test as well........however I have run RP a few times and was happy with it, my plan is to stick with Redline at this point for my application once broken in using a thicker oil; 10w40....
