Is it really neccessary to resurface my rotors, im planning on changing my brake pads this weekend andi wanted to know if its really neccessary, this is the first brake pad change since the originals. Also which brake pads do u all recommend, any info would be appreciated, thankx

I am still on the original's and I have 82,000 miles on them. The last time they were checked out, they said there was about 50% life left on them.

the brake pedal feels pretty low, and the wear indicators are starting to make noise, sign to change them ?

 

Make sure you can write your name on them with a ball point pen after you get them surfaced

 

Don't bother resurfacing unless they're warped. Maybe check for rotor thickness tolerance.

From the 99 manual:

1.With engine off, pump the brake pedal 3 times to exhaust the vacuum assist from booster.
2.measure from brake pedal to rim of steering wheel
3.Depress pedal with approx. 70lbs while brakes cold. Pedal travel should not exceed 2.75in.

With only 1mm allowed for refinishing, I won't do it unless I had to, or had the spare cash to replace. In which case an uprade might happen.

 

Unless you ran your pads down to the backplates or you tow a boat or horse trailer down a mountain you probably don't need to turn them. Examine the surface for gauling and pitting. Does the brake pedal pulsate when applied? If there is only 1mm of spare material to turn down it's really not worth it because you can't correct much damage in a 1mm turn. It's hardly worth mounting the rotor on the lathe.

 

Yeah if there not all groved up or warped you don't wanna do it cause it will make them thinner and then they'll warp really easy.

 

One of my manuals says you can use use sandpaper in a circular motion all around on both sides just to take a little of the smoothness out. If you need brake pads already that would be weird though. Have you actually pulled the wheels and looked yet? I do not know any good brands to recommend sorry <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
