Removing the catalytic converter?
i have a flowmaster with single in/single out turndown right now. makes a quite idle and a nice ripping noise at high rpms. what will removing the catalytic converter do for me performance wise? also, how will it differ in sound?

it would more than likely get a hell of a lot louder since you dont have anything blocking the outgoing airflow like a cat does...
be happy that you dont have pre-cats like are on the F150's found that out one day at a muffler shop

Not much for performance--maybe 2-5 hp. But it sounds bada$$!! Especially if you put in some cutouts also.

if you have not cats it wont hurt your computer it will just set off ses light right? and also with no cats if you have ls1 edit you can turn off overheat cats and get more power

Re: Removing the catalytic converter?
red: you are right on the ses light part. For the cat overtemp feature, you dont always gain power just by turning it off. People generally see gains from turning this off because of an overly rich condition caused by removing the cats. Either way though, if you have ls1 edit and dont have cats that should be turned off.
On a stock internal NA truck cats are probably worth about 5rwhp. If you have a cam or anything else its going to be worth more for sure though. If you are running any kind of nitrous or FI taking off your cats will give some very nice gains.

Re: Removing the catalytic converter?
alright, i thought so since anything to free up air will give u power. i dunno why these new chevy engines have so much air restriction, whats the deal? anyway, i plan on forced induction and maybe cam down the road so ill probably do it. thanks
